Use a general purpose grease on all assembled parts before assembly.
After greasing assemble lock shaft into housing; align the “square hole” in housing with
the cutout in housing center circle shown to left in photo.
Install washers as required (normally 1 or 2) to take out play between handle and housing cap
when clipped. Install clip in groove on shaft to retain.
Set unlocked position on lock and insert into lock shaft. Ensure you align the locks locking foot
to the “square hole” and cutout in housing. Turn the key to the lock position on a temporary
basis.
Install sealant on door skin to seal between skin and housing/shaft assembly. Place sealant
only on outer door skin. Use PR1440B 2 or B4 for pressure sealing.
Set mechanism housing for door ensuring foot of lock is extended to lock position in cutout in
housing. IMPORTANT: Place locking foot and cut out at the 6:00 position.
Place housing assembly on door assembly. Place square shank of housing into door internals
and place housing in-situ with cutout in housing facing directly towards the door hinge (direction
indicated by arrow in photo). This is the bottom of the door when the door is closed.
Insert the three screws into the slots of the housing. The screws can be MS27039C0816 or the
MS27039C0817 (preferred).
The slots are elliptical as shown here so ensure they are aligned to the holes in the door skin.
Insert screws and tighten. See next step for tightening.
Use the lock to align the slots in the housing so that the foot is centered in the cutout. When
aligned tighten down the screws to standard torque values evenly.
After torque is complete reconfirm the foot is centered in cutout— operate the lock several times
to ensure the foot is centered and that the lockset operates freely. If OK, then remove the lock mechanism by unlocking. Clean up the extra sealer from the door skin and you may remove the
tape from the placard on the housing at this time.
The Allen key is used here to assist in removing the lock by pressing in on the foot to help
dislodge the lock in an upward motion.
Note the lock being lifted and the hole on the shaft is aligned towards the relief button on the
door skin (shown on lower right of photo).
We now can assemble the housing cap over the shaft and handle.
Set the handle into place and tighten the set screws. See photo below for additional
information.
Lubricate the ball with grease (such as G322L). It will be set into the mounted handle groove
via the hole previously noted in the shaft (see step 13) after installing handle. Ball is shown
here laying in the handles groove.
Set ball into groove/shaft hole after lubing. The ball is shown in this photo just over the location
it will be in.
Set lock into its hole with lock in unlocked position. Ensure the foot is aligned with the “square
hole” and cutout in housing which is at the hinge side of handle. Lock handle to finish
installation. Note: Lock should be disassembled on an annual basis for lubrication and
rechecking torque on the screws.
